6. RESEARCH ACTIVITY
Research activity on the following topics concerning Fluid
Mechanics
Wind Energy Aerodynamics of the turbine rotor,Design and construction of
horizontal and vertical axis wind generators,site evaluation,
wind parks.
Industrial Mainly experimental and numerical work on flow around
Aerodynamics buildings,ships,complex structures such as velodrome and
tennis courts for the Athens Olympic Stadium,etc
Air Pollution Experimental and Computational work on the dispersion of effluents
from chimneys of buildings,power stations and ships and on dispersion
of pollutants in complex terrain as the Athens topography.
Computational Work on grid generation techniques,finite difference methods
Aerodynamics on curvilinear coordinates for solving Navier-Stokes
equations,on flow around airfoils,aeroplanes and car
aerodynamics.
Combustion Work on fluid-solid particle interaction, combustion of
Engineering coal in burners and utility boilers, two phase flow and
combustion in Internal Combustion Engines.
7. EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE
During the 15 years I have been with the faculty of the Mechanical Engineering
of the
Technical University of Athens (Fluids Section) I have taught the following

1968-1970 As reserve officer during military service, mechanical engineering
studies on petrol pipe lines, central heating, electric trasmissions
in military installations, pump stations.
1970-1972 Private office on Mechanical Engineering design and construction
on various items as layout of carpet factories, electric
substations,refrigeration units.
1976-today Applied research and consultancy services to industry.
Particurarly to be mentioned:
All the new Greek Electrostatic Precipetators and boilers
for Electricity production have my approoval as regards flow
quality.
Two Wind Generators,one horizontal and the other of Vertical
axis of 20 meter diameter have been concieved and aerodynamically
designed by my team.
The height of the chimneys of three new power stations of 300
MW scale have been calculated by my team as also pollutant
dispersion to meet allowable pollution standards.
An electric city vehicle has been designed by my team and a
prototype is under construction (depending on the continuation
of funds)
A computer code has been developed for coal combustion which is
sold to European Industry through the VALUE programme of the
Community.
